The Luna Optics LN-SM50 is an infrared night vision device, which coaxes the darkness of it’s secrets to a distance of up to 300 meters - with 5x magnification.

The all-glass optical quality of the instrument not only provides pin sharp observations of all types (animal and bird watching as well as human 'activity'), but is suitable especially for professional applications such as surveillance and recovery assistance.

The space-saving design and light weight of the device allow it to be easily carried in backpacks, and even pockets. Thanks to a solid design and tough build it’s the perfect accompaniment for expeditions into the wilds! The built in tripod mount allows for extra stability and is compatible with most tripods. In the absence of a tripod, the ergonomic design, non slip rubber surface and low weight of the device ensures long term, fatigue-free use.

A precise and comfortable click-stop focusing eyepiece combines with a focussing objective lens to provide close-up focusing down to 3m (10 foot) and more precise adjustments at all viewing distances. One-touch controls and light indicators provide the user with visible power and IR illuminator working indication. The unit can also be adapted to the latest digital and film SLR cameras with the help of the LN-CAS camera adapter system (not included and requires an SLR specific T ring).

Our opinion: This is a great night vision monocular and a step up from anything in it's class or price range. It's as near as Luna get to an entry level model, but make no mistake there is no compromise or trade off with the SX3. The image is bright and sharp with the contrast and image smoothness you would expect from a much more expensive model. The IR illuminator is effective and puts the light right were you want it in the centre of the view! This is a great 3x monocular for garden wildlife watching and even semi-pro night surveillance. I particularly liked the screw-on metal lens cap and the cam-corder style side-strap and, perhaps more importantly, the fact that although the SX3 is really Luna's most basic model it is still fully camera adaptable.
