70mm Maksutov Cassegrain telescope with 25 to 75x zoom eyepiece. This rubber clad spotting scope may be compact, but is capable of high magnifications provided by the superb Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design. This special design effectively 'folds' a long focal length into the confines of a short tube. Power-packed, the Acuter Mak-70 seems to deliver the resolution and contrast you'd expect from a much bigger (more expensive!) telescope. Amazingly this lightweight scope (just 1kg) is great for astronomy and terrestrial targets alike. The optics are naturally Fully Multi-Coated for excellent light transmission, resolution and contrast. Focusing is ultra-smooth and is operated by rotating a control conveniently positioned on the right side of the body. At the 25x magnification the MC70 can just about be held in the hand but a tripod boss on the base means it easily fits any standard camera tripod for the higher powers offered by its versatile zoom eyepiece. Close focus: just 4.5m! From the rings of Saturn to wildlife in your garden just 4.5m (14'9") away! Supplied in soft stay-on action carry and storage case. Specification Focal length 750mm (f10.7) Close focus: 4.5m Standard eyepiece (included) Zoom 10mm to 30mm (25x to 75x magnification) Size (with eyepiece fitted)285mm x 140mm x 90mm Tripod fitting: Standard tripod bush. Colour/Material: Black Rubber> Weight 1030g So what's so great about the Mak-70? The light weight design means this scope is perfect for grab-and-go observing, whether it's long-range wildlife or astronomy. It's wide power range means you can use the instrument for observing an amazingly wide range of targets. What can you see? At maximum power the Moon becomes a fabulously intricate landscape of craters, rays and rills. At good observing times, when observed at 70x magnification, the planet Jupiter will appear as a disc larger in size than you normally see the full Moon with the unaided eye! The planet Mars will show surface detail (shading) and the polar cap can be seen during ideal observing conditions. With the appropriate solar observing filter the MC70 will reveal cooler dark sun spots and brighter super-heated regions. And at 25x magnification you can watch birds on a feeder just 4.5 metres away! A grab-and-go scope with real power on tap from a zoom eyepiece. |
