Who is This Scope For?
Although this is definitely priced to be an entry-level rifle scope, it has a few features that are absent, even on much higher priced optics.
Perfect for everyone!
Whether you are looking for your first rifle scope or looking to add some versatility to your long gun – this is the scope for you. I have used it for target shooting and hunting at medium ranges and found it to be perfect for both.
Reticle Type
Let’s start out by answering the most common question…
What is a truplex reticle?
Simply put, a truplex reticle stretches all the way to the top, bottom, left, and right edges of the lens. These types of reticles can be called several different names, including multi-X or duplex. Triplex is just the name Simmons uses for their scope reticles.
This type of reticle has hefty lines on the outer edge with finer aiming lines that intersect in the middle. The thicker outer lines allow the eye to find the center of the target easily, and the fine aiming lines give the shooter a more precise point to aim with.
This is the most common type of reticle used by the general public, as they work on rimfire or centerfire with any caliber and load, and they’re easy to understand and use.
Magnification and Optics
For a scope priced so low, the range of magnification is pretty amazing. The variable zoom stretches all the way from 3 x to 9 x. The large, 40mm objective lens combined with specially designed, fully coated internal lenses keeps the image quality crisp and clear the whole way through the magnification range.
The lenses are coated with Simmons proprietary “hydro shield,” which ensures the sharpest, clearest, and brightest possible vision.
What about ranging?
I found the 3x to 9x magnification gave me about 1000 yards of usable range, with this scope excelling at 300 – 700 yards. Perfect for most hunting applications and great for target shooting.
Mounting Options
The Simmons Blazer 3-9x40mm riflescope does not ship with mounting rings included, so you will have to grab a set if you don’t already own some. I went with the Vortex Optics Hunter Riflescope Rings, and they worked out well.
Although you can get away with using slightly larger or smaller mounting rings, but for the price, it’s definitely worth getting the right size. Mounting the scope is a straightforward and quick process. Have a quick look on Youtube for instructions if you haven’t done this before.
Build Quality
The tube is made from a single hard-anodized, aircraft-grade aluminum. This guarantees that the scope will handle all the rough and tumble you can expect when hunting, so no need to worry about it breaking anytime soon.
How about the warranty?
The Simmons Blazer 3-9x40mm riflescope is backed by Simmons full lifetime warranty! So, again, there is no need to worry at all. I have been using Simmons scopes for a long time, and the only time I have had to use this warranty offer was after a minor car crash.
As mentioned earlier, the internal glass has been fully coated to give the best light transmission possible. The scope has also been nitrogen-purged, which stops any fogging issues.
It is also waterproof to a depth of 10ft (3m) which makes it all the more versatile.
Elevation and Windage
Pretty standard stuff here…
The windage and elevation turrets are set in the center of the scope tube. They are capped, which assures that the settings remain at zero at all times. Each click results in a fine 0.25 MOA adjustment, making zeroing an absolute breeze.
The Simmons Blazer 3-9x40mm riflescope does not include a parallax adjustment turret, but to be totally frank, I did not miss it. Parallax is set to 100 yards. Even at the highest magnification, everything scoped came through clear as day.
